RELEASING GUILT, ANGER AND FEAR: ERICKSONIAN APPROACHES TO PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALING AND SPIRITUAL GROWTH Presented by Sam Menahem Ph.D. Dr. Menahem will explore the importance of releasing guilt, fear and anger through hypnotic trance induction, direct and indirect suggestion and metaphor. Guilt is seen as the underlying cause of all self destructive behaviors, even if it is unconscious. Dr. Menahem has combined Ericksonian approaches with the "Sedona method" and Buddhist teachings in developing his approach to healing. Although Dr. Erickson did not use the word spiritual in his writing, he has been described as a very spiritual man. Now, Erickson's concept of the healing power of the unconscious is being widened as an entry point for the development of compassion, and loving kindness for one self and others. This leads to healing on all levels, spiritual, psychological and physical. Sam Menahem Ph.D.is a psychologist in Fort Lee N. J. He is a former NYSEPH instructor and board member, Adjunct professor at Columbian University, former president of the Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy (ASP)and the author of two books, "When Therapy Isn't Enough", and "All Your Prayers Are Answered." "Awakening the Metaphor: Group Experience of Stories as Trancework" Presented by Michael Fisher, Ph.D., Site Director of Psychological Services and Training, North Central Bronx Hospital, One of the most powerful and important tools in trancework is the use of metaphor. The great body of human literature from fairy tales to religious texts present complex metaphors that speak to the human experience in ways that can be utilized in a group. In this workshop participants will work with stories through both role play and trance. In this way the meanings of a story's metaphors will be experienced on personal and archetypal levels. Therapists will certainly find these approaches helpful for themselves and for their clients. Participants will be given basic concepts, will be guided towards experiencing and utilizing waking self hypnosis and, we will have them devise their own approaches.
