Creating an Eye and an I in the Storm:
Transforming the Frenzy of Infertility with Hypnosis.
Helen Adrienne, L.C.S.W., BCD
Practitioner of Mind/Body Medicine
A fundamental characteristic of the experience of infertility is the feeling of frenzy. The disruption is so great that it is as if the laws of physics have changed. This feeling is not unique to infertility. Anyone who has felt impotent in the face of internal or external demands to accomplish something, has experienced this kind of frenzy. It deeply impacts the mind/body/spirit. Arriving at the eye and the "I" is a kind of "conception" from which the embryo of the creative unconscious can gestate, even in the face of extreme chaos.
After providing a didactic panorama of the infertility experience, this workshop will offer participants the opportunity to explore the universal elements of infertility that effect us all. The hypnotic process will aim to facilitate the creation of an eye in the storm and to locate the powerful presence of the "I" which often gets shattered in the frenzied state.

Mimesis: The Healing Power of Stories and Trance
Michael Fisher, Ph.D.
Great stories are packed with metaphors that have the potential to heal.
In this workshop trance-induction, story-telling and role-play will be used to explore a story in depth.
As we do so the story's metaphors are amplified and made personal, allowing us to connect to a deeper self.

Seminar on Creativity and Hypnosis
Jenny Ross, L.C.S.W.
Hypnosis opens the channel for the creative process by accessing the unconscious state, both in psychotherapy and artistic endeavors.
This workshop will address: accessing the 'creative state' in trance, helping ourselves and clients achieve focused concentration and awareness of internal experience through trance. Learn more about using trance to help open up possibilities, supporting a different thinking pattern, finding the freedom to explore---all elements of the creative process. Hypnosis can provide a potential/play space to help participants tap into their rich internal imagery and bypass the critical voice.
Just remember that while thinking too much on the conscious level can close us down, playing with less thinking on the unconscious level can open potential space and allow us to free the flow fully!

A. Jordan Wright, Ph.D
In trancework, often the most powerful techniques are the ones that reach our patients beyond words. Tone of voice, volume, breath matching, and even rhythmic movement have been used to induce trance and do hypnotic work. This seminar will be an experiential introduction to the use of melody as metaphor in hypnosis. Based on fundamental Ericksonian techniques, extrapolation to music and the power it can have, will be demonstrated and discussed. The benefits of producing live music within a session will also be explored.

When the "Adult" and the "Child" Meet Again:
Revisiting, Reframing and Healing the Child's Wounds
Brigitte E. Lifschitz, L.C.S.W.
NYSEPH President
So much of what people experience over and over again, are the early wounds of childhood.
That is where the healing must occur for the adult to be able to move ahead and lead a fuller life.
Traveling "back in time" to revisit and befriend the often "abandoned" and/or disliked child-self
through Hypnosis and EMDR, enables people to "grow up" and finally feel whole.

The Use of Ericksonian Hypnosis in Treating Trauma. Robert Kupferman, LCSW Mr. Kupferman has been using hypnosis as an important component of his counseling work at the St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center's World Trade Center Healing Services Program. As trauma is embedded in the unconscious, guarded by multiple defenses, the indirect Ericksonian approach is a great way to gently access the unconscious mind. Hypnosis for trauma can be used for abreaction, panic attacks, phobias, mood regulating, addictive behaviors. Sunday May 7, 2006
