IN MEMORIAM

Karen Sands was a dedicated psychotherapist, hypnotherapist and member the NYSEPH Board of Directors for many years. She was spirited and courageous, having had to struggle with the physical difficulties of MS for a great number of years. We extend our deepest sympathy to her daughter, Dacey.
A funeral service was held at the Riverside Memorial Chapel on Thursday, December 27th, 2007. It was well attended by family, friends and colleagues.

For Karen Sands
"Karen-- What can I possibly say in mere words that would tell you anything about what it was to be in therapy with Karen Sands? Shut away, week after week, just the two of us in that office, she gradually gave me back my life. How could I possibly tell you about that? In everything Karen did, whether it was holding my hope or assuring me that I wasn't too much for her, there was always the love. That’s what I’ll keep with me forever.
Midway into the therapy I wrote a scene for a play I was working on. I always thought of this scene as Karen’s scene so I want to reproduce it here:
“Sometimes, Gerald. Only sometimes. But sometimes. I am filled with so much love my body can barely contain it all. It feels as if this love will explode out of me and break into a thousand pieces of light. And the pieces of light will become stars.”
I love ya, Karen and I’m going to miss you like crazy. My world won’t ever be the same, but I can move on because of you."
